Israel News for Kids: The Magazine #1 – Israel’s Flag
Abstract
The main article discusses the meaning of the flag, and its importance to national pride.
Students will learn about the historical origin of the flags, and when did it become a national symbol.
Moreover, students will learn the story of the sequence of events leading up to the establishment of the official flag of the State of Israel that we know today: from Herzl’s proposal for the seven-star flag, to the flag with the blue stripes and the Magen David.
In this issue, students will read the fascinating story of the “Ink Flag” that was raised in Eilat during the War of Independence, in “Operation Ovda”.
We will get to know the phrase “Show Ziona a miracle and a flag” – from a poem by Noah Rosenblum. A song composed following the First Zionist Congress, and was inspired by the verse in the book of Jeremiah “Shau Nes Ziona…”
Finally, this lesson plan provides fun games students can enjoy playing.
